Should we be sceptical of Exxon

The head of Exxon Mobil, Rex Tillerson, has called on the US Government to impose a tax on carbon emissions.

Is this just another ploy to divert attention, would another tax ever get through the US congress, unlikely in this economic climate, therefore by calling for a new tax makes this guy and his company seem like they are being good corporate citizens.

Remember these are the guys that destroyed Prince William sound, these are the guys who are still fighting the environmental groups and the local fishing groups, trying to prevent them receiving compensation.

Sorry, but when a company like Exxon come out wanting to save the environment, given they are the primary cause of the situation we find ourselves in, then I am sceptical, when a company like Exxon spend billions of dollars coming up with bogus science to argue against climate change and now want to be part of the solution, I am sceptical.

Can these companies and people change??

Sea Shepherd update

Hi all

It is good to see that the Sea Shepherd has dock safely in Hobart for a few days to re-fuel and to give the crew some time ashore.

Even though the captain is been harassed by customs for some sort of white powder, they are doing a good job.

Keep up the good work Sea Shepherd, get back out there and kick some Japanese arse, get them out of Antarctic waters for good.

The Japs are such an arrogant bunch, whaling is dead in the water.

Get over it Japan, move on. The tradition should be confined to the history books of your culture.

Garrett to save the Turtles?

What a fantastic good news story, Peter Garrett, saving the loggerhead turtles. I applaud this type of decisions, well done.

Now Peter, you must move onto the bigger issue of climate change, if you do not sort out the issues of climate change then putting every animal in the world on the endangered species list would make no difference.

If we don't sort out climate chnage then nothing will survive.

Peter, get on with the real issues and leave the saving of the turtles to your staff!

Leave the Sharks and other apex predators alone?

I cannot believe the headlines, It's Safe to Go in the Water! of course it is safe, we have being swimming with sharks for ever and the number of shark deaths and shark attacks are so minimal it is crazy. These animals, like lions, wolves, bears, eagles, snakes, are so critical to the ecology of the places they live.

If humans want to swim in the ocean, then you run the risk of been bitten or killed by a shark or a box jelly fish or any other marine creature, that is the risk you run. What right do we have to kill or control these animals, it is their home, their habitat, if you are scared of them , then stay away.

Let's look at the deaths on our roads, suicide, drugs, war, child abuse, murder, stupidity (car hoons), let's sort at our own environment, then worry about the apex animals. These animals are the least of our worries compared to what we do to ourselves.

Good over it everyone, tough titties to those who get bitten, stay away if you do not like the risks associated with swimming or bushwalking

Humans do not have the right to control nature, we should work with it?? I say go the sharks, you are getting some of your own back for all the years humans have killed your populations for no reason?
